Overview
Loveland Pass is hands-down one of my favorite locations for easily accessible but absolutely epic mountain views. The parking area is right next to the pass itself, making epic views easy to access. There are also several trails in the area that allow more privacy.
Location
The overlook is located about 20 minutes from Dillon, Colorado and about 1.5 hours from Denver. Here's the location on a map.
Permit Requirements
None required for ceremonies or photography.
Pets
Pets are permitted at Loveland Pass but must be on a leash. The overlook is popular, so there will likely be other people and potentially other dogs.
Weather and Seasons
Loveland Pass is open and accessible year-round. Because of the high altitude, there will be snow well into spring and snow will fall earlier in the year here than lower elevation locations. In the winter, the pass can be very cold and windy, but still beautiful! Pass Lake is only accessible in the summer months.
Accessibility
Loveland Pass is very accessible. There is a parking lot right next to the pass and you can literally step out and be in the mountains. You can also hike as much or as little as you want around the pass. Loveland Pass is at a very high elevation, so be prepared for the altitude. Pass Lake is only accessible in the summer months.
Parking
There is a parking lot at the pass and parking is free.
Other Notes
- Loveland Pass is popular, so I usually recommend a weekday if possible.
- Loveland Pass pairs well with Sapphire Point. It works really well to have a ceremony at Sapphire Point then go to Loveland Pass for photos or private vows.
- You can also have a ceremony at Pass Lake
- There is a really cool little alpine about 5 minutes down the road that is more private.
- Loveland Pass will be colder than lower-altitude locations. Make sure you're prepared for the weather.
- There are no restrooms at Loveland Pass or Pass Lake.
Reasons to love this location

- Very easily accessible with little to no hiking (but you can hike if you want to!)
- Great for sunset or sunrise
- It's beautiful and accessible all times of year (watch weather in the winter though)
- There is a really cool alpine lake nearby called Pass Lake
