Loveland Pass is hands-down one of my favorite locations for easily accessible but absolutely epic mountain views. The parking area is right next to the pass itself, making epic views easy to access. There are also several trails in the area that allow more privacy. 

The overlook is located about 20 minutes from Dillon, Colorado and about 1.5 hours from Denver. Here's the location on a map.

Pets are permitted at Sapphire Point, but must be on a leash. The overlook is popular, so there will likely be other people and potentially other dogs.

Loveland Pass is open and accessible year-round. Because of the high altitude, there will be snow well into spring and snow will fall earlier in the year here than lower elevation locations. Watch the weather in the winter, because snow storms are common. 

Loveland Pass is very accessible. There is a parking lot right next to the pass and you can literally step out and be in the mountains. You can also hike as much or as little as you want around the pass. Loveland Pass is at a very high elevation, so be prepared for the altitude.
