Chautauqua Park

Overview

Chautauqua Park is an overall great location for photos. Chautauqua is an iconic park in Boulder with one of the best views of the Flatirons around. The park is very popular for good reason and can get crowded, but it's large enough that you can pretty much always find get away from others and find some privacy.

Location

Chautauqua Park is located right in Boulder off Baseline Road. Here is a Google map pin that will take you to the Chautauqua trailhead, which is where we will likely meet.

Permit Requirements

Chautauqua does not require any additional permits to take professional photos in the park.

Pets

Pets are permitted at Chautauqua bust must be on a leash. Chautauqua is a popular spot for many different activities, and it is likely that we will encounter other dogs and people. As long as your dog can handle encountering other people and dogs, Chautauqua is a great spot if you want to bring your dog. There is lots of space, which is helpful when dogs are included.

Weather and Seasons

Chautauqua is open and accessible year-round. In the summer months, the meadow is usually green vibrant. In the winter, it's common to see snow on the ground and on the Flatirons.

Accessibility

Chautauqua is easily accessible with a short walk from the parking lot. The walk is mostly flat unless you want to hike a little higher into the mountains.

Parking

There is a parking lot right at the base of the trailhead. However, this parking lot can fill to capacity during popular times. If the main parking lot is full, there is plenty of street parking. You must pay for parking on weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Other Notes

  • Plan to give yourself extra time to park and walk to the trailhead. If the main parking area is full, you may need to park on the street.
  • It's about a 5-10 minute walk from the trailhead to where I like to shoot.
  • There are restrooms at the ranger cottage near the trailhead and there are also portable toilets.
